My Soul Waits

My soul waits.
My soul longs.
My soul holds

its breath
and will not breathe
again until You are here, Lord,

until I can feel
Your presence once more.
My soul waits.

My soul waits
and watches
and faces the eastern skies.

My soul waits
to be bathed
in the light of the sunrise.

My soul waits
in silence
as the mockingbird trills
its morning hymn,

and the limpkin calls out,
its voice echoing through
the trees and skipping
across still waters, waiting
for an answer in kind.

My soul waits
for You, Lord,
for an answer,

for a word.

My soul waits
and in Your word,
I hope.

Amen.

Psalm 130:5
